| Course Overview: | Tourism and Hospitality is a rapidly-growing industry sector, and critical to the success of the industry is its management. Students are getting jobs, especially more so now in the present booming economy. The tourism, hospitality and leisure industry surpasses trade in oil, steel, and armaments in total dollar value and in employment created. International tourist trips are expected to surpass the 1 billion mark worldwide by 2010. | ||||||||||
| Course Features: | The Tourism and Hospitality Studies Program provides students an opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of:The reasons why people travel and how the tourism and hospitality industry meets travellers’ needs;The interdisciplinary and diverse nature of the tourism and hospitality industry including tourist destinations, infrastructure and superstructures;Local and international tourism and hospitality trends and issues, and their social economic and environmental impact; andThe major functional areas or sectors within the tourism and hospitality industry and the career opportunities available.
Students are expected to master the skills to: Develop a range of specific and generic skills, including effective communication skills, customer service skills, information-processing skills, critical thinking skills, creativity, and problem-solving skills; and, Apply appropriate skills in a wide range of tourism and hospitality industry and service-related situations. | ||||||||||
